"FIFA" threatens Brazil with exclusion from international participation

A source in the French National Federation of American Football (CONMEBOL) said Monday that FIFA will not tolerate any influence in the internal affairs of the Brazilian authorities and the Brazilian authorities hesitate in Brazil if Ednaldo Rodriguez is not returned to the presidency of the federation.

The source, who requested anonymity, explained, “The laws are clear and clear. External interference in the field of specialization of the General Union is not strictly permitted under any circumstances.”

The President of the Brazilian Federal Union, Rodriguez, was dismissed from Mexico on the 7th of this month, following the authority’s decision, invalidating the event, and may be elected.

Rodriguez's dismissal is considered an additional blow to Brazilian football and the "Seleção" team, which is going through a difficult period in terms of results, with its star player Neymar missing and suffering three consecutive defeats in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

This mandate was invalidated between the Brazilian Confederation and the General Agent in Rio and dates back to March 2022, which subsequently caused Rodriguez to be elected as head of the Confederation until 2026.

FIFA and CONMEBOL decided to send a mission to Rio de Janeiro, which will begin work on January 8, to find a solution to the crisis.

According to the Brazilian media, the Brazilian Federation obtained a letter signed by a global member, Kenny Jean-Marie, and another from the southern federation, the Monserrat Jiménez Grand Federation, dated 24 December, in which these two powers “jointly insist” before January 8 “that it shall not be implemented”, i.e. "Includes the Brazilian Confederation, especially the elections."

Otherwise, FIFA will have “no choice but to ask its judicial body to deal with the file,” which could “lead to suspension of membership.”

The letter stated that such a Brazilian holiday would mean excluding Brazilian teams, national teams, and clubs from all international competitions.

Brazil currently qualifies for the 2026 World Cup, and this summer it will compete in the Copa America tournament next June and July.
