Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo came close to breaking a
major record, the largest number of goals scored in 2023, when he scored his
51st goal with his Saudi team, Al-Nassr, on Friday evening.
Ronaldo rose to third place in the ranking of the most goals
scored during the year, behind English Harry Kane, Bayern Munich striker, and
Frenchman Kylian Mbappe, Paris Saint-Germain striker, each with 52 goals.
Ronaldo has a golden opportunity to surpass the two stars,
as he will play two matches against Al-Ittihad and Al-Taawoun in the Saudi
League, before the end of this year.
As for Mbappe and Kane, their goalscoring quota has ended
this year, as their teams enter the winter break.
Norwegian striker Erling Haaland also has the opportunity to
break the record, as he now has 50 goals, and has two Premier League matches
before the end of the year, but he suffers an injury that may prevent him from
participating.
If Ronaldo scores two goals, he will reach the 53rd goal,
and become the highest scorer in the world in 2023.
This achievement will be added to a long list of records for
the legendary striker, who is 38 years old.
